Meet Courtney and Jan-kees. Their laugh, smile, and love is infectious. From the moment I met Courtney at Briana + Brock's wedding, I knew she was the one for Jan-kees. If you've never shared a kiss with your significant other in front of a manure pond, you are missing out. According to the couples questionnaire, it is safe to assume that Snapchat is Jans 'go-to' for wedding communication. A few days after Jan proposed, I received a snap asking for my available Saturdays in the fall. After a few snapchats, we had a wedding date booked and a time for their engagement session. After viewing these photos, I hope you share the same excitement that I have about photographing this couple again on their wedding day.
Thanks to Jan's family farm for allowing me to photograph at the farm. Always a favorite. :) I've known Jan-kees since grade school. It is SO much fun to be photographing these times in the lives of my classmates. I wouldn't trade this job for anything. *insert pink twirling heart emoji here*
How they met according to her: Well to be honest I had a crush on him since 5th grade when I moved toOhio. I was friends with his sister and knew that would be weird for her if I ever pursued it so I never did. But the first time we talked was at a fall event at our church we were lined up to race in a large inflatable bounce house (I was a freshmen and he was a junior) anyways he thought I was his sister so in the bounce house during the race he pushed me down into a wall so he could beat me. Then when I came out mad he realized it wasn't his sister. After that we talked off and on through Facebook but I always had a boyfriend or stupid high school pretend boyfriends so we never dated. Then college rolled around and he messaged me on Facebook and I was no longer friends with his sister at least not good friends so I thought what the heck and gave it a shot. A year later were engaged and I'm with the guy I've been crushing on hard since 5th grade:) he never knew that till we started dating lol
How they met according to him: I would say this is over a few years. I liked her and would text her every once in a while and see what was up. If she was looking for a guy or not. Most times she wasnt interested or that is what she told me and so i would wait and try again. This went on for three or four years before we finally went out and now im stuck with her:)
Proposal story: So Jan-kees had this big surprise date planned for a week. And sadly the day before two employees quit so we couldn't go. Naturally I went to the farm because I love it there and helping so it was still a date for me. Anyways that night we were working as usual went home played cards with his mom and then he said he needed to go get a nice outfit. So he went upstairs and came down to try on dress shirts with ties. His mom and I chose our favorite then he ran back upstairs and came down in a hoodie. He then said I need to go check something at the farm so he left me with mom and dad to talk. About 30 min later he called me and said to check under his pillow for a surprise for me. When I did it was a letter saying I was going on a scavenger hunt since I love adventures and a bunch of screen shotted pics of me from snap chat over the last year. I then went to the farm and found more letters and and pictures. At each station I had a poem a letter and pics with clues on the back I had to piece together like a puzzle. Finally I got to the baby barn where there was music playing and more letters and pics. He came in on a dress shirt and tie danced with me ( because I like dancing ) then he had me pick up the last picture which was taped upside down to a poster board when I turned it over it was a snap chat of me that said marry me one I sent him over the summer when he was being sweet! :) and I turned around and there he was down on one knee and he asked me to marry him..... Obviously I said yes. I did like the man since 5th grade and he is perfect for me:)
His idea of a date night: My idea of a date night would be going out to eat and doing a fun activity. Or staying home and teaching her some more about the farm.
Her idea of date night: night in a field with a blanket soft music with a picnic and talking about life. Simple and relaxing nothing fancy:)
